The Méta Malette
A bit of history
Music and numbers always had an intimate relation and many musicians call a good mathematical understanding their own –starting with Pythagoras who defined the scale 2000 years ago.
Thus of course the musicians use the computer, and some do so since more than 50 years. For a long time many uses of the computer in music, were closer to l' writing which requires less computing power, than playing an instrument in real time. But the evolution of data-processing is so fast that it is now possible to imagine a collective instrumental practice of the Computer-Assisted Music (CAM).
Why a briefcase (Malette) ?
In parallel to the high level education addressing professional musicians, the Puce Muse Studio offers an all public education that targets several aspects: To discover, thanks to a ludic and creative device, the possibilities of the Virtual Visual Alive Music. To play together with up to 16 people Music on Computer (CAM).To get to know, through several play-software various techniques of synthesis and sound transformations which marked the history of the CAM; to try out various modes of digital representation of the instruments, the sound, the gesture or the music; practicing a contemporary music with contemporary instruments. Every game/piece is designed by a composer. Some are truely interactive scores; others are more open to support an experimentation of the techniques of syntheses.
