Biography
After studying composition at the Frantz Liszt Academy at Budapest (Hungary), György Kurtág joined the staff of the I.R.C.I.A.M at Paris (France)as a researching composer (at the Atelier de Recherche Instrumentale). There he worked among others with M.Kagel, Péter Eötvös, S.Bussotti, Daniel Kientzy, Pierre Yves Artaud, and the Quatuor Arditti. He participated in the research of the analizes and recognition of Gestures of instrumentalists in order to create new musical instruments.
Strongly attracted by the visual arts and paintings, he received commissions by the Centre George Pompidou, the Louvre Museum, and The Museum of Grenoble as well as from several sculptures, video artists and choreographers.
Recently his field of interests focuses around the themes of collective composing and the ongoing projects: “The Continuator Project” with Francois Pachet of the Sony Computer Sciences Laboratory, “Zwiegespräch” for string quartet and synthesizer with György Kurtág Senior.
Experieneces with collective creation
As a researcher I am interested in the creation of intelligent instruments and devices that integrate collective instruments and the pedagogy of interactivity (human-machine communication)
As a composer I am interested by the collaborative works with other composers as well as in ongoing (evolutionary) projects with interpreters.
As a pedagogue I create a method that develops competences that are – I believe – indispensible for a fluid, continuous for a communication in three dimensions:
- Sensorial intelligence (flexibility of the hearing, tactile perception)
- Share/combined intelligence (human-machine communication)
- Collective intelligence (free improvisation)
